THE "BLESSING BOX"

Picture
In March of 2021, we wanted to do something for our neighbors, and the idea of a Blessing Box was born.  Wayne built it and Dorthy’s husband painted it, TWICE. Their daughter made the decals for the front, and it is quite official looking.  We fill it three times a week, and it is usually empty or almost empty each time.  We put in non-perishable food items and personal hygiene things.  The latter are very popular because they are usually expensive and not covered by food stamps. During Sunday School classes, the children enjoy filling the box.  What a great way to instill the value of charity for the less fortunate!

We have averaged spending about $115 a month, but that cost is going up. We finance this mission with fund raisers like the salad bars and flea market and book sale as well as grants from the Conference and donations from this church, such as the Mother’s and Father’s Day honorariums.   We have an on-going donation box in the chapel, and there are also some unknown folks from the community who stock it from time to time.  I have made it a habit that when there are Buy One/Get One items at the store, I take the one I need and donate the other.  It’s a win-win.  Our Blessing Box is a worthwhile, and we appreciate all who support this effort.

LAY LIFE AND MISSION

At Christ Church we believe that we are called to serve others.  Serving the Lord and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ can seem like an overwhelming task-but our Mission team finds faith and trust in the direction and strength of the Holy Spirit.

 Thank you for your support.

On going missions include Kiva loans and our partnership with the Westmoreland County senior food bank as well as the local meals on wheels.

You are invited to meet our mission partners from across the globe to right here in our neighborhood and learn more about what God is doing around the world through them.
